The Wired website brief is the first step to web success.
Taking the time to plan your requirements before starting the web design process saves you time and money, and is crucial to a successful web strategy. We strongly advise clients to carefully work through this process so that we can create a firm foundation for your online presence.
Elements of the brief include:

1. Defining Site Goals
What do we hope to accomplish by building the site? Generally this will be to make money or share information - and often both. It is important to define the project carefully.
- Who are the intended audiences
- What are the short- and long-term goals of the site?
- What is the mission or purpose of the organisation?
- Why will people come to the site?
2. Defining your Audience
Exactly who must we reach to achieve your goals? Will they be a specific sex, age group, locality, or educational demographic. How to reach and appeal to these audiences should be taken into account before deciding on the look and feel of the site.
- Rank the importance of each audience and list goals important to each.
- Refine site goals accordingly.
- Evaluate sites (including own existing site if there is one)
- Perform a competitive analysis of their website.
3. Defining Requirements
What will the target audience expect to find on the site? Will they be looking for specific information, product information, News? Clearly define what content will be necessary to engage the target audience and accomplish the stated goal of the site. Remember the Internet is about information and convenience…it is a customer management tool. Ask yourself…How do we currently communicate with our customers. Provide the content and services your visitors want and expect.
- What pieces of content does the site need?
- How will this content be grouped and labelled?
- Create a content list.
- What functions are required for content to work?
